Russia in the most popular world competitions (2000-2017)

Different international competitions have become very popular since the second half of the 20th century. The Eurovision Song Contest and the Olympic games are the most well-known among them. Russia actively takes part in these events every year. However, Russia was disqualified from participation in "Eurovision 2017" due to the latest politics in the world. Besides, a lot of Russian sportsmen were debarred from "The Olimpic games 2018" because of the doping. Despite all that, Russia continues to be one of the most successfull contries-participants in the 21st century.

• The Summer Olympic games were the most effective for Russia. Our country took 2-4 places during the period from 2000 to 2016. Nevertheless, Russia failed to take the first place.The USA, China, the UK were leaders of competitions. It was very difficult challange to compete with them.
• At the Winter Olympics the Russians uncertainly showed themselves from 2002 to 2010. But in 2014 Russia became the absolute winner in the overall medal standings.
• As for the Eurovision, the results of Russia improves every year. Singers from Russia have got into the final of this competition and taken not less than the 15th place. Moreover, they were 3 times in the third place, 4 times - in the second, and in 2008 Russia became the first.
