Business and Financial Statistics of Australia, by Region

The strategy integrates the collection and quality assurance of data required for input into both the ABS’s Business Characteristics Longitudinal Statistics (BCLS) and the production of point in time estimates for: use of information technology; innovation; and a broad range of other non-financial business characteristics. A more detailed set of items of either business innovation or business use of IT are collected every second year (i.e. in alternating years).

Contains quarterly estimates of profits, income from the sale of goods and services, wages and salaries, and the book value of inventories. These data are classified by broad industry, and original, seasonally adjusted and trend estimates are included for Australia, in current price terms. Volume measures are published for sales and inventories. State/territory data will also be included for sales, and wages and salaries, in current price terms.

Contains statistics on live births and fertility for Australia, states and territories, based on calendar year of registration data. Information on characteristics of the mother and child include place of usual residence, sex, Indigenous status, age, marital status and country of birth of parents.

Australia: Environment Statistics

Australia's international merchandise trade statistics record goods which add to or subtract from the stock of material resources of Australia by entering (imports) or leaving (exports) its territory. Goods simply transported through Australia (goods in transit), or temporarily admitted or withdrawn, do not add to or subtract from Australia's stock of material resources and are not included in Australia's international merchandise trade statistics.

Net overseas migration (NOM) is the net gain or loss of population through immigration to Australia and emigration from Australia. This dataset contains annual NOM estimates by age and sex at the state/territory and Australia level.

Australia: Industry Statistics

The dataset presents the number of proceedings that police initiated in the form of court and non-court actions for all states and territories. Data are compiled on the basis of the date that police-initiated action, or proceeded against, an offender (e.g., the date the offender was charged, the date the offender was cautioned, etc.). The date the offender was proceeded against by police may not be the date when the offence occurred, or the date when the offender came to the attention of police. In some jurisdictions the data may reflect the date of record creation rather than date of action; however, this does not have a significant impact on the comparability of data across jurisdictions for offenders as there are no major lags between the two dates.

This publication presents estimates of the value of turnover of "retail trade" for Australian businesses classified by industry, and by state and territory.
